Tunisian police arrested presidential candidate Nabil Karoui on Friday.
The Interior Ministry said, Karoui, 56-year-old, was arrested for money laundering and tax evasion.
Karoui’s party said the case was politically motivated to exclude him from the election race.
Nabil Karoui is media magnate and one of the main candidates contesting the Sept. 15 election following the death of President Beji Caid Essebsi.
A political adviser to the candidate, Osama Khelifi, said, “They kidnapped the most prominent candidate in the presidential election so Prime Minister Youssef Chahed can win the election.
