Israel has approved the construction of 6,000 homes for Jewish settlers and 700 homes for Palestinians in an area of the occupied West Bank.
The announcement for the construction of the houses came ahead of an expected visit of the U.S. envoy Jared Kushner to Israel on Wednesday.
The U.S. envoy is visiting Israel to discuss a White House plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace accord.
Israel has the security and administrative control of the area of settlements in the West Bank.
The Israeli settlements are deemed illegal by most world powers and the Arab World.
Palestinians want East Jerusalem as capital, Gaza and West Bank as a Palestinian state.
