West Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, committed to aspirations of Palestinian people: Australian PM

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said they recognise West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, committing East Jerusalem capital of a future state of Palestine.

He said, they are looking forward to moving the embassy to West Jerusalem when practical, and a peace settlement is achieved, adding, work on a new site for the embassy was underway.

He said, Australia would establish a defence and trade office in the west of the holy city, adding,the Australian government is resolved to acknowledge the aspirations of the Palestinian people.

Both Israel and the Palestinians claim Jerusalem as their capital. Arabs and Israel have fought three wars over the issue. Years-long negotiations have not come to any conclusion with Israel developing illegal settlements in the occupied areas.

Foreign nations are avoiding moving embassies there over security issues told their citizens to exercise a high degree of caution while travelling to Tel Aviv, Israel, and Palestinian areas Gaza and West Bank.

Western nations support liberal democracy in the Middle East and say Israel is bullied by the Arab countries surrounding it.
