U.S. should not use extreme pressure on Iran: Chinese diplomat Wang Yi

He said, China is very concerned about the situation in the Gulf.

The Chinese government’s top diplomat Wang Yi said the United States should not use extreme pressure to resolve issues with Iran warning the world it should not open a “Pandora’s Box” in the Middle East.

Speaking in Beijing, he called on Iran not to drop out of a landmark nuclear deal.

He said China was very concerned about the situation in the Gulf.

Chinese State Councillor Wang Yi called on all sides to ease tension and not head towards a clash.

He said, unilateral behavior has no basis in international law, it will create a greater crisis.

He said the Iran nuclear deal was the only feasible way to resolve the nuclear issue, adding, China hopes Iran’s legitimate lawful rights and interests will be respected.  

Fears of a confrontation between Iran and the United States have mounted.

The United States blamed Iran for the attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

Iran denied involvement in the tanker attacks.  

The U.S. has announced deployment of about 1,000 more troops to the Middle East.
