Saudi Arabia denounced U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Israel’s 1981 annexation of the Golan Heights.
The Golan Heights is the occupied Syrian Arab land, a statement by Saudi press agency said, describing the declaration as a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and of international law.
Trump signed a proclamation on Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington.
The agreement officially granted U.S. recognition of the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.
The issue of the occupied Arab lands have to be resolved in accordance with the U.N. Resolutions, Saudi press agency statement said.
Israel seized the Syrian Golan Heights in the 1967 Middle East War.
The statement said, recognition of annexation of the occupied land will have significant negative effects on the peace process and stability of the region.
