Republican Senator says Saudi crown prince must be held accountable for murder of Jamal Khashoggi

Protestors hold a banner showing Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi. He was killed at a Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

A Republican Senator, Lindsey Graham, said on Saturday the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was responsible for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist, and he must be dealt with.

He said, the crown prince was complicit in the grisly killing of Washington Post contributor Khashoggi in October.

The influential ally of U.S. President Donald Trump also threatened new sanctions against Saudi Arab.

He said the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States cannot move forward.

The murder of the Saudi journalist has tarnished the international reputation of Riyadh.

The U.S., France and Canada have placed sanctions on nearly 20 Saudi nationals.

Jamal Khashoggi was killed by a team of 15 Saudis who strangled him during a visit to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

The journalist was at the Saudi consulate to obtain paperwork ahead of his upcoming marriage.

Riyadh has denied any claims of the crown prince’s involvement but the murder has caused strains with Washington.
