Polling continues for local bodies by-elections in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhaw

The polling for local bodies by-elections is continuing in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with six seats for district municipal corporations in Sindh, 22 district council seats, and 138 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seats.

At least 105 candidates are contesting for Karachi district municipal and district council seats in local bodies by-elections.  

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) finalised the arrangements prior to the elections, and provided ballot papers and election material to the presiding officer prior to the polls.

Other than the mainstream political parties such as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP), Jamaat-e-Islaami (JI), independent candidates, and candidates of other religious and political parties are in the election running that began early Sunday morning.

Reportedly, workers of political parties clashed and exchanged fire at a polling station in Mardan.

The polling will end at 4:00pm today.
