Conceding to the demands of Opposition leader Mian Shahbaz Sharif, government and opposition representatives agreed that the Public Accounts Committee chairman, Pakistan Muslim League (N) President would be the Opposition leader in the National Assembly.
After taking up the seat of premiership Imran Khan had clearly said, he will not accept Shahbaz Sharif as Public Accounts chairman.
The majority of ministers in the government was also against Shahbaz Sharif as Public Accounts chairman. However, Foreign Minister Mehmood Shah Qureshi has given Shahbaz Sharif the authority to make anyone the chairman of Public Accounts Committee, saying the government would accept the decision.
After the National Assembly session, Defence Minister Pervez Khatak and other government members met Shahbaz Sharif and leaders of other political parties and agreed that Shahbaz Sharif would be the chairman of Public Accounts Committee.
Pakistan Muslim League (N) circles are taking the decision as defeat of Imran Khan.
