A Californian man, 65, was killed in a shark attack in waters off the coast of Maui, Hawaii.
A witness in a neighbouring hotel raised the alarm.
The man was reportedly swimming about 60 yards off the beach.
Rescuers found him dead at the scene with extensive shark injuries.
The attack is the sixth shark-attack case in one year in Hawaii, reports said.
Sharks kill about six people a year on average around the world.
