Israel strikes Hamas in Gaza

Israeli aircraft attacked a Hamas target in Gaza on Thursday after a cross-border flare-up.

The Israeli military said a Palestinian rocket launched across the frontier caused fires in fields in southern Israel this week.

The Israeli fighter planes attacked the underground infrastructure of Hamas.

The militant group rules the Gaza Strip. The economy of Gaza Strip has suffered years of Israeli and Egyptian blockades.

Some two million Palestinians live in Gaza.

Israel has fought three wars with Hamas since the group seized control of Gaza in 2007.

The latest hostilities followed Israel’s closure of offshore waters to Gaza fisherman.
