Iran is ready to hold talks with the United States if Washington lifts sanctions but has made talks conditional for being able to export oil as it did before the U.S. sanctions.
Existing U.S. sanctions have targeted Iran’s foreign revenue stream from crude oil exports.
“We have always believed in talks if they end the imposed economic pressure,” Iranian President Hassan Rouhanisaid in a speech.
Despite call for talks with Iranian leaders, Trump said on Wednesday the U.S. sanctions on Iran would be increased.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has said it is open to negotiations on nuclear and security issues.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo dismissed Rouhani’s idea for returning to the 2015 nuclear deal it quit last year, saying, President Trump will obviously make the final decision.
