At least 20 people including five U.S. troops were killed in a bomb attack in northern Syria on Wednesday.
Earlier, a US official had stated four U.S. troops had been killed and three wounded in the blast.
The attack appears to be the deadliest on U.S. forces in Syria since they were deployed on the ground in 2015.
Trump claimed on Dec. 19 that Daesh had been defeated, ordering troop withdrawal from Syria.
Many Americans cheered Trump’s withdrawal decision.
Later, White House issued statements the U.S. forces would stay in the Middle Eastern country as long as extremist groups were not eliminated completely.
