The United Arab Emirates government issued a birth certificate to a baby-girl born to an Indian Hindu father and a Muslim mother.
As per the UAE marriage rules for expatriates, a Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim woman but a Muslim woman cannot marry a non-Muslim man.
According to a media report, the country’s marriage rules were set aside for expatriates during the Year of Tolerance 2019 to highlight UAE as an example of a tolerant nation.
The couple got married in Indian state Kerala in 2016.
The couple‑‑Sharjah-based expat Kiran Babu and Sanam Saboo Siddique‑‑was given the birth certificate of their daughter on April 14, a day before the Hindu festival of Vishu.
